Abstract
This study focuses on the preliminary design of a lithium hydroxide monohydrate production facility utilizing lithium chloride and sodium hydroxide as primary raw materials. The plant employs a causticization process comprising raw material dissolution, a reactor-based causticization reaction, crystallization, solid-liquid separation, and rotary drying to yield a high-quality product with a purity level of 99.18%. With an annual production capacity of 70,000 tons, the facility is strategically planned for location in the Cilegon area of Banten. The causticization method was selected due to its high efficiency—achieving a reaction conversion of 99%—its relatively simple process flow, and the generation of an economically valuable sodium chloride by-product. The design scope encompasses a comprehensive evaluation of mass and heat balances, process equipment specifications, utility provision, control and safety systems, and facility layout. Economic indicators demonstrate the project's strong financial viability, featuring a pre-tax Return on Investment (ROI) of 34.59% and a post-tax ROI of 25.94%, an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 21.6%, and a Break-Even Point (BEP) of 33.36%. The investment is projected to have a payback period (PBP) of 3.27 years, following a two-year construction phase. By optimizing domestic supply and leveraging international export opportunities, the plant aims to significantly reduce import volumes, conserve foreign exchange reserves, and accelerate the downstream development of the national electric vehicle battery industry.
