Abstract
UPN “Veteran” East Java has not yet provided up-to-date data that reflect the current conditions of waste generation and composition in each campus building. Although similar studies have been conducted previously, the available data no longer reflect current conditions due to the increasing number of academic community members and changes in campus activities. This study aims to examine the waste generation and composition produced by the Shared Lecture Building (GKB) and the Rectorate Building as a basis for formulating sustainable waste management strategies. The methods used include direct measurement of waste generation and analysis of organic and inorganic waste composition at several waste source points in both buildings. The results show that cardboard and paperboard constitute the highest proportion of waste at 24.45%, while variations in other waste types are influenced by the specific activities within each building. These findings indicate significant potential for optimizing waste management through segregation, recycling, and composting. An integrated waste management strategy involving the academic community, adequate facilities, and institutional policies supporting sustainability is required. Overall, this study is expected to serve as a foundation for developing a more effective, measurable, and sustainable waste management system on campus.
