Abstract
Dimethylformamide, also known as DMF, is an organic compound with the molecular formula HCON(CH₃)₂. DMF is a colorless liquid organic compound with a boiling point of 153°C. Dimethylformamide is widely used as a solvent in the production of resins, plastics, and certain sectors of the textile industry. In line with the increasing demand for dimethylformamide, there is an opportunity to plan the construction of a dimethylformamide plant with a planned production capacity of 50,000 tons per year. The plant is planned to be located in Cilegon, Banten. The plant will operate 330 days per year with a total workforce of 161 employees. The dimethylformamide production process uses methyl formate and dimethylamine as raw materials. In the initial stage, each raw material is heated to 80°C and then fed into a reactor to produce dimethylformamide and methanol at a pressure of 10 atm. This exothermic reaction occurs with a 90% conversion rate. The reactor output is cooled, and the components are separated in Distillation-1 at a pressure of 2.7 atm; the top product is recycled back into the reactor, while the bottom product containing a mixture of dimethylformamide and small amount methanol, and some impurities is further separated in Distillation-2 at a pressure of 1 atm. The top fraction of Distillation-2, consisting of methanol, water, and a small amount of impurities , will be condensed and then stored in a tank. The final product, Dimethylformamide with 99,99% purity, is stored in a storage tank.
