Abstract
The wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) plays a crucial role in reducing pollutant concentrations before industrial effluent is discharged into the environment. This study evaluates the performance of the Bardenpho Fourth Stage process in removing Ammonia Nitrogen (AN) from wastewater generated by PT Cheil Jedang Indonesia Jombang. The evaluation was conducted by analyzing the effects of operational parameters, including pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), and hydraulic retention time (HRT), on the efficiency of ammonia nitrogen removal. In addition, a mass balance analysis was performed to assess the distribution and transformation of pollutants throughout the treatment units. The results indicate that the Bardenpho Fourth Stage process effectively reduces ammonia nitrogen concentration under appropriate operating conditions, with pH, DO, and HRT significantly influencing the nitrification and denitrification processes. The mass balance evaluation demonstrates that the treatment system operates consistently and supports stable pollutant removal performance. Overall, the findings suggest that proper control of operating parameters is essential for maintaining high treatment efficiency and ensuring compliance with environmental discharge standards. Therefore, continuous monitoring and optimization of the Bardenpho Fourth Stage process are recommended to improve the overall performance and sustainability of the wastewater treatment plant.
