Abstract

The development of social media has transformed digital platforms into public spaces used to access information and provide responses to viral content. This study was conducted to examine public responses to the Nenek Elina case content posted on the TikTok account of Cak Armuji. The research employed a qualitative approach using the netnography method. The data were obtained from public responses in the comment section of the content. This study refers to Jürgen Habermas’ Public Sphere theory (1989), which emphasizes the role of public spaces as arenas for discussion and the exchange of opinions regarding public issues. The findings reveal various forms of public response, including support for Cak Armuji in highlighting the Nenek Elina case, criticism directed at members of MADAS involved in the forced eviction, and demands for justice from the government. The diversity of public responses demonstrates the function of the public sphere as a medium for building discussions, expressing evaluations, and delivering criticism. These findings indicate that the upload of the Nenek Elina case content encouraged public participation on TikTok through the comment section.
