Abstract

PT Sumber Organik, as the manager of the Landfill Gas Power Plant, faces the problem of frequent Gas engine failures, which cause downtime and reduce machine availability. This study aims to measure the time intervals of component failures, identify the root causes of failures, and develop a proposed preventive maintenance schedule using the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methods based on historical data from January to December 2025. The results show 51 failures with a total downtime of 279.47 hours, where the Spark plug is the most critical component with the lowest Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) of 27.72 days (664.8 hours), while the Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) shows the Ignition system as the most critical subsystem, contributing 49% of total failures. Based on these calculations, the proposed preventive maintenance schedule is 24 times per year for the Ignition system. 12 times a year for the Combustion system, 7 times a year for the Turbocharger system, and 6 times a year for the Cooling system. Implementing this proposed schedule can increase the Gas engine's availability from 86.84% to 93.42%, or an increase of 6.58%, which can improve the reliability and effectiveness of the maintenance system for Gas engines at PT Sumber Organik.
