Abstract

Carbon black is one of the chemical materials that has extensive applications in various industries, particularly as a reinforcing agent and filler in the tire and rubber industries. It is also widely used in the plastic, ink, paint, coating, automotive, and battery industries. The domestic demand for carbon black has not yet been fully met, resulting in continued dependence on imported products. Therefore, the establishment of a carbon black plant in Indonesia has promising prospects. The carbon black plant is designed to use natural gas and air as raw materials through the Furnace Black process. The reaction takes place in a furnace through the combustion and thermal cracking of natural gas to produce carbon black. This process was selected because it has a relatively high yield, operates continuously, and requires relatively simple and economical main equipment. The carbon black produced is subsequently cooled and separated from the gas using a cyclone and bag filter. The carbon black then undergoes pelletization by adding water, drying using a rotary dryer, cooling, and storage in a silo before being packaged and distributed. The by-product gas is utilized as boiler fuel, while carbon dioxide is processed into liquid CO₂ as a by-product. The planned carbon black plant will operate continuously with a production capacity of 60,000 tons/year. The plant is planned to be located on Ronggolawe Street, Sendang Kijing, Sambeng Village, Kasiman District, Bojonegoro Regency, East Java, considering its proximity to raw material sources, availability of utilities, transportation facilities, and adequate labor. The plant is planned to operate for 330 days per year with a total workforce of 198 employees. The plant has a construction period of 3 years, with a Fixed Capital Investment of Rp 2,578,952,753,126, Working Capital Investment of Rp 735,035,422,688, and Total Capital Investment of Rp 3,313,988,175,814. The Manufacturing Cost is Rp 2,205,106,268,063, General Expenses are Rp 735,035,422,688, and the Total Production Cost is Rp 2,940,141,690,751. The bank loan interest rate is 8%, with a Rate on Investment of 21.38% before tax and 16.04% after tax, a Pay Out Period of 4 years and 9 months, an Internal Rate of Return of 11.15%, and a Break Even Point of 34.04%. Based on the technical and economic analyses conducted, the establishment of this carbon black plant is considered feasible for realization and may proceed to the subsequent design stage.
