Abstract
Indonesia, as a maritime country, has great potential in salt production. however, conventional methods still require a long time to reach the standard Baume degree (°Be). This study aims to examine the effects of flow rate, gutter hole diameter variations, as well as temperature and humidity conditions on the evaporation rate of seawater using the perforated gutter evaporation method. The research was conducted by pumping 250 liters of seawater with an initial concentration of 4°Be into perforated gutters with hole diameters of 0.2 cm, 0.3 cm, 0.4 cm, 0.5 cm, and 0.6 cm, and flow rates of 147,60 L/h, 169,20 L/h, 183,60 L/h, 194,40 L/h and 205,20 L/h. The results showed that smaller hole diameters and higher flow rates led to higher evaporation rates. Increasing temperature and lower humidity also accelerated the evaporation process. The best result was obtained with a hole diameter of 0.2 cm and a flow rate of 210.9 L/h, achieving a final concentration of 23°Be, evaporating up to 206,5 liters of water, with an evaporation rate of 0.002176 m³/m²/s. Thus, the perforated gutter evaporation method is effective in accelerating the increase of seawater Baume degree for faster salt production, using simple equipment that is easy to apply in the community. Keywords: Salt, Evaporation, Perforated Gutter, Baume Degree.
