Abstract

PT XYZ is a company engaged in the granular fertilizer industry. The maintenance system currently applied is corrective maintenance, where repairs are carried out only after the machine has already failed. This condition has resulted in a high frequency of downtime on the Compact Granulation Double Roller Machine No. 12, with a total of 29 failures recorded from January to December 2025. The critical components identified were the seal, with a failure frequency of 12 times, and the bearing, with 10 times, resulting in a total overall downtime of 4,167 minutes. Therefore, a preventive maintenance analysis is needed to systematically and reliably reduce the risk of sudden failure. This study aims to determine the optimal replacement and inspection time intervals for machine components using the Age Replacement method. Data processing was carried out by calculating the Time to Failure (TTF) and Time to Repair (TTR) values, followed by index of fit and goodness of fit tests. The test results showed that the failure and replacement data for both components follow a Weibull distribution. The MTTF value for the seal component was 45,021.76 minutes and for the bearing was 56,128.87 minutes, while the MTTR value for the seal was 210.94 minutes and for the bearing was 166.41 minutes. Based on the calculation results of the Age Replacement method, the optimal replacement interval for the seal component is every 44 days and for the bearing every 52 days, with inspection intervals of every 14 days and 17 days, respectively. Based on the analysis conducted, the Age Replacement method was able to reduce total downtime from 4,167 minutes to 1,644 minutes, thus proving effective in supporting the implementation of more planned and sustainable preventive maintenance.
