Abstract

This study is titled "Audience Reception of Sharing Content on TikTok @Toni_Cu". The growth of social media, particularly TikTok, has given rise to the phenomenon of sharing or charity content packaged in an emotional and dramatic manner to attract public attention, as seen in the account @Toni_Cu, which combines charitable acts with game-based content. This phenomenon has triggered varied audience responses, ranging from positive appreciation and neutral attitudes to criticism and rejection, making it important to examine how audiences make sense of such content. This study aims to identify and describe how audiences receive and interpret the sharing content presented by the @Toni_Cu account, applying Stuart Hall's audience reception theory through the encoding-decoding model, which classifies audience reading positions into three categories, dominant, negotiated, and oppositional. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with in-depth interviews as the main data collection technique. Informants were selected through purposive sampling with diverse backgrounds, and data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model. The findings show that audiences interpreted @Toni_Cu's sharing content in varied ways, shaped by personal experience, social background, and individual values. Three reception positions were identified: dominant, negotiated, and oppositional. Despite differing positions, all informants agreed that the sharing activities were genuine, not staged. This study affirms that social media audiences are active agents in constructing meaning rather than passive recipients. Keywords: Reception analysis, sharing content, TikTok, encoding-decoding, Stuart Hall
