Abstract

Film, as a medium of cultural expression, has the power to represent social realities, including the dynamics of conflict within the family. One work that raises this issue is the film Perayaan Mati Rasa, which highlights the psychological burden borne by the eldest child as a result of unequal attention, unrealistic expectations, and a lack of open communication within the family. The film portrays how emotional pressure, sibling comparison, and the absence of parental validation of feelings can lead to deep psychological wounds. This study aims to analyze the representation of family conflict in the film using John Fiske’s semiotic approach, applied to 22 scenes across three levels: reality, representation, and ideology. The results of the analysis show that conflict is represented through oppressive expressions and dialogue, supported by dim lighting, slow pacing, and minimal communication that reflects the protagonist’s sense of alienation. At the ideological level, the film reveals the emotional burden carried by the eldest child and offers a critique of patriarchal culture within the family. Thus, Perayaan Mati Rasa presents a portrayal of passive yet destructive emotional wounds within the family, while also enriching film studies related to the representation of social conflict.
