Abstract
This study aims to analyze the dynamics of interpersonal communication between fathers and children in broken home families after legal divorce. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach with a constructivist paradigm to understand how both parties interpret openness, empathy, support, positive attitude, equality, communication frequency, and relational meaning after changes in family structure. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with eight children aged 19 to 23 years and eight biological fathers who had experienced divorce, supported by documentation and literature review. Informants were selected purposively based on their experience of maintaining or having maintained communication after divorce. The data were analyzed using reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that divorce does not automatically sever father-child communication. Three relational patterns emerged: a positive and close relationship characterized by routine communication, emotional support, and openness; a formal relationship limited to practical needs; and a distant or conflictual relationship marked by low communication intensity and unresolved disappointment. The study concludes that the quality of post-divorce father-child relationships is shaped more by sustained interpersonal communication than by family structure alone.
