Abstract
The synthesis of zeolite from bagasse ash has attracted significant attention due to its high silica content, which enables the formation of porous aluminosilicate structures with excellent ion-exchange capacity. This study aims to synthesize zeolite from bagasse ash and evaluate its performance as an ion-exchange material for reducing groundwater hardness. The synthesis process was carried out through the preparation of sodium silicate and sodium aluminate, followed by zeolite synthesis using a hydrothermal method. Material characterization was conducted using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). XRF analysis showed that bagasse ash contains major components of CaO (58.72%) and SiO₂ (23.94%). XRD results indicated the formation of crystalline zeolite phases, although minor impurity phases were still present. SEM analysis revealed irregular and porous particle morphology. Application tests demonstrated that the synthesized zeolite effectively reduced Ca concentration from 609,25 mg/L to 5.36 mg/L and Mg concentration from 20.94 mg/L to 3.64 mg/L. These results indicate that zeolite derived from bagasse ash has strong potential as an effective alternative material for water hardness treatment.
