Abstract
A Phthalic Anhydride plant using naphthalene and air as raw materials through an oxidation process is planned to be established in 2030 at the Krakatau Steel Industrial Estate, Cilegon, Banten, with a production capacity of 55,000 tons per year. The establishment of this plant is motivated by the increasing demand for phthalic anhydride as a raw material in the production of resins and fiberglass-reinforced polyester, which are widely used in the automotive, shipbuilding, chemical tank, and construction industries, as well as an effort to reduce dependence on imported products. The production process consists of raw material preparation, product formation through the oxidation reaction of naphthalene with air in a fixed-bed multitube reactor using vanadium pentoxide as a catalyst, separation of condensable gas and non-condensable gas, purification of phthalic anhydride through a distillation process to obtain a product with a purity of 99.7%, and product solidification using a flaker. The plant is designed to operate continuously for 330 days per year with a total workforce of 157 employees. The company will be established as a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a line-and-staff organizational structure. Based on the economic analysis, the plant requires a Fixed Capital Investment (FCI) of IDR 1.002 trillion and a Working Capital Investment (WCI) of IDR 829 billion, with estimated annual sales revenue of IDR 3.832 trillion. The economic feasibility analysis resulted in a Rate On Investment (ROI) before tax of 24% and ROI after tax of 18%, a Payback Period (PBP) of 3 years and 1 month, an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 13%, and a Break Even Point (BEP) of 36%. Based on these results, the Phthalic Anhydride plant is considered economically feasible for establishment.
