Abstract
This study is motivated by the rapid development of social media, particularly TikTok, as a platform for entertainment as well as a space for the construction of social meanings that influence public perceptions of women. As illustrated by the viral phenomenon of “Unboxing Mahar” content, women can be objectified and portrayed as valuable commodities. The purpose of this is to examine how discourse of female objectification are constructed within such content and how audiences respond to them. This research employs a qualitative approach using digital discourse analysis. Ideology and power relations are also examined through text, context, interaction, and other relevant aspects. Data collection techniques include observing TikTok content and conducting literature studies. The findings indicate that “Unboxing Mahar” content functions not only as entertainment but also carries symbolic meanings that depict women as objects valued based on material worth. The diverse responses from audiences further reinforce and reproduce the discourse within digital spaces. This study concludes that social media plays a significant role in shaping and disseminating discourses of female objectification. Therefore, individuals should be more critical and mindful in both producing and consuming digital content. Keywords: Female Objectification, TikTok, Digital Discourse Analysis.
