Abstract
This study aims to understand the experiences of mothers in the PKK of RW 01, Sawahan Village, in managing household finances amid economic pressures, as well as to reveal how these practices reflect the values of financial patriotism. This study employs a qualitative approach using descriptive phenomenology. Research informants were selected using snowball sampling, consisting of four main informants and three supporting informants. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, while data analysis utilized Colaizzi’s phenomenological method. The results indicate that the PKK mothers employ various strategies in managing household finances, including setting priorities for needs, controlling discretionary spending, adopting a frugal lifestyle, setting aside funds for savings and an emergency fund according to their means, and adjusting expenditures when prices of basic necessities rise. Limited income does not act as a barrier to building family financial resilience but rather encourages wiser financial decision-making in line with their circumstances and available resources. This study also found that the values of financial patriotism are reflected in responsible consumption behavior, moderation in meeting one’s needs, support for the local economy through the habit of shopping at traditional markets and from small vendors in the neighborhood, and concern for others as a form of social responsibility. These findings indicate that family financial management is not only oriented toward meeting economic needs but also reflects responsibility, social concern, and a commitment to maintaining family well-being and supporting the economic sustainability of the community, thereby reinforcing the Family Resource Management Theory, which emphasizes the importance of adaptive family resource management to achieve family well-being.
