Abstract
Inventory management is essential for sustaining maintenance operations in manufacturing environments where machine reliability directly affects production continuity. This internship report evaluates the implementation of the Multi-Item Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) method for optimizing consumable maintenance stock within the Engineering Division of PT. XYZ, a major ceramic manufacturer in Indonesia. The division manages a wide variety of technical consumables, including mechanical components, metal profiles, fasteners, electrical parts, and transmission accessories, all of which exhibit fluctuating demand patterns and relatively long procurement lead times. Inefficient ordering decisions can trigger stockouts that delay machine maintenance or cause overstock situations that inflate holding expenses and increase warehouse congestion risk. The analysis uses historical purchase data reflecting total annual material demand valued at Rp378,190,765, combined annual ordering cost of Rp1,765,530, and total annual holding cost of Rp920,106, covering storage utilities and operational warehouse allocations applied uniformly across material categories. EOQ was computed using an aggregated minor ordering cost coefficient to determine a combined optimal order value of Rp38,096,850 per procurement cycle, while optimal physical order quantities were derived individually for each item type based on unit price and annual usage. The optimal reorder cycle was identified as 37 working days, enabling structured scheduling that balances ordering frequency and storage cost. The results demonstrate that Multi- Item EOQ supports cost-efficient procurement planning, improves inventory structure, ensures consumable availability for timely maintenance response, and reduces operational risks associated with stock imbalance, offering a practical decision basis for future engineering consumable procurement policy improvements.
