Abstract

Indonesia is one of the world's largest tobacco-producing countries, where tobacco has played a significant role in supporting the trade sector since its introduction during the colonial period in the 17th century. Bondowoso Regency is recognized as one of Indonesia's leading tobacco-producing regions, with its harvests processed into small-scale clove cigarettes (kretek) and supplied as raw materials for the local tobacco industry. However, the increasing anti-smoking health campaigns and fluctuations in tobacco prices have led to a decline in market demand, indirectly threatening the sustainability of the region's tobacco farming traditions and cultural heritage. In response to these challenges, the Bondowoso Tobacco Edu-Agro Center is proposed as an agro-based educational tourism destination and research center aimed at providing comprehensive knowledge about tobacco while supporting the development of diversified tobacco-derived products. The design adopts the Landscape as Learning Loop concept, which views the landscape not merely as an aesthetic element but as a continuous learning environment integrated with educational spaces. A bioclimatic architectural approach is employed to create buildings that respond effectively to Bondowoso's local climatic conditions, while the force-based design method is applied as a design strategy to optimize the implementation of passive design principles in a contextual manner. Through the development of the Bondowoso Tobacco Edu-Agro Center, this project is expected to strengthen the preservation of tobacco farming culture while enhancing public understanding of tobacco's potential beyond conventional uses, positioning it as an essential component of Bondowoso's local agricultural identity.
