Abstract

Tobacco is one of the plantation commodities that plays an important role in the rural economy. However, the dynamics of the tobacco commodity, as indicated by fluctuations in production, cultivated land area, and tobacco productivity in Jombang Regency, as well as the declining trend of the Farmers’ Terms of Trade for the Smallholder Plantation Subsector (NTPR) in East Java in 2025, suggest changes in economic conditions that may affect tobacco farmers' income. This study aims to identify and analyze the factors influencing the income of tobacco farmers in Mangunan Village, Kabuh District, Jombang Regency. This research employed a quantitative approach using primary data collected through questionnaires distributed to 70 tobacco farmers. The analytical method used was multiple linear regression with the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) approach, processed using EViews 12 software. The independent variables included land area, tobacco selling price, fertilizer cost, labor cost, seed cost, education level, and farming experience, while farmers' income was used as the dependent variable. The research results indicate that, simultaneously, the variation in tobacco farmers' income explained by the regression model is significantly greater than the variation caused by factors outside the model. The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0,943955 indicates that 94.40 %t of the variation in farmers' income can be explained by the variables included in the model, while the remaining 5.40 % is explained by other factors outside the model. Partially, land area, tobacco selling price, fertilizer cost, labor cost, seed cost, and farming experience have a positive and significant effect on farmers' income, whereas education level does not have a significant effect. Farming experience is identified as the variable with the strongest influence on tobacco farmers' income.
