Abstract

A sustainable drinking water supply requires a distribution system capable of maintaining both water quantity and quality up to the consumer. The drinking water distribution system in Kertosono District, Nganjuk Regency, still experiences several challenges, including low hydraulic pressure, insufficient residual chlorine, and the presence of total coliform in the distribution network. This study aimed to identify the existing condition of the drinking water supply system, evaluate water quality based on residual chlorine and total coliform parameters, analyze alternative scenarios to improve distribution system performance using EPANET modeling, and estimate the Bill of Quantity (BOQ) and Cost Budget Plan (RAB) for the selected development scenario. The research employed field surveys, hydraulic pressure measurements, residual chlorine and total coliform analyses, water demand calculations, hydraulic modeling using EPANET 2.2, and simple linear regression analysis. The results showed that the existing hydraulic pressure ranged from 1.1 to 2 bar, indicating that the system generally met customer demand, although several service areas experienced pressure reduction during certain periods. Water quality did not comply with the requirements of the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia No. 2 of 2023, as residual chlorine concentrations at all sampling points were below the minimum standard and total coliform was detected throughout the distribution network. Regression analysis indicated that distribution distance significantly affected the decrease in residual chlorine and the increase in total coliform. Simulation results demonstrated that the existing system scenario with 30 L/s flow optimization and additional booster pumps was the most effective alternative, as it improved system performance by utilizing the existing distribution network while requiring relatively low investment costs. The estimated development cost for the selected scenario was IDR 241,267,000.
