Abstract
Women play a crucial role in the development of the creative economy, including in Jombang Regency, which is dominated by the crafts, fashion, and culinary sectors. Despite their growing potential, female creatives still face various obstacles, such as limited access to training, creative development facilities, collaboration spaces, and low digital literacy and product marketing. Research, on the other hand, shows that a quality built environment integrated with natural elements can increase comfort, reduce stress, and support user creativity and productivity. These conditions formed the basis for the design of the Women's Creativity Center in Jombang as a platform for developing women's creative potential. The design uses a Concept-Based Design method with the theme of Interconnectedness: Mosaic Creative Flow, which interprets the diversity of women's potential as a mosaic that complements each other in a creative ecosystem. This theme is translated through a Biophilic Architecture approach adapted from the principles of Tropical Architecture, so that the relationship between humans, activities, and nature not only builds spatial experiences but also produces thermal comfort appropriate to local climate conditions. The resulting design presents a creative area with educational, productive, recreational, and commercial functions that are interconnected through a cluster mass pattern surrounding a courtyard as the center of the area's orientation. The relationship between buildings is strengthened through semi-outdoor corridors, courtyards, and transitional spaces that integrate biophilic patterns such as visual connections with nature, natural lighting, cross-ventilation, water features, and vegetation to create a restorative environment. The building's appearance adopts tropical architectural characteristics through wide openings, cross-ventilation, overhangs, a secondary skin, and the use of natural materials that support climate performance while enhancing biophilic qualities. Thus, this design creates a creative environment that not only facilitates the development of women's skills and collaboration but also enhances comfort, well-being, and productivity through the connection between space, activities, and nature.
