Abstract
Indonesia, as the world's fourth-largest coffee producer, has significant potential for developing commodity-based educational tourism. In Yogyakarta, the rapid growth of coffee shops has not been matched by the availability of comprehensive educational facilities. Since 2022, barista and coffee roaster training programs organized by the local government have been limited to short-term initiatives and have not been integrated into permanent learning facilities. Furthermore, studies on various coffee agrotourism destinations in Indonesia indicate that visitors have limited access to learning about coffee cultivation, post-harvest processing, and roasting, resulting in suboptimal educational experiences. In response to these challenges, the Coffee Educational Tourism Based on Experience Architecture in Yogyakarta project is designed as an integrated facility that combines coffee education with a structured, interactive, and multisensory spatial experience. The Experience Architecture approach is applied to create a spatial journey that enhances visitors' emotional, sensory, cognitive, and social engagement. The design process consists of theoretical studies, site analysis, concept development, and the planning of educational spaces, including a coffee plantation, post-harvest processing area, roasting room, barista training classroom, and supporting public facilities. This project is expected to serve as a model for coffee educational tourism that not only enhances the quality of learning but also contributes to the development of tourism and the creative economy in Yogyakarta. Keywords: educational tourism, coffee, experience architecture, spatial journey, Yogyakarta.
