Abstract
The City of Batu is one of the leading tourist destinations in East Java Province, Indonesia, renowned for its mountainous landscape, cool climate, and hilly terrain. The increasing number of tourist arrivals in recent years has led to a growing demand for accommodation facilities. However, accommodation development in Batu City is still dominated by conventional lodging, which has the potential to place pressure on the natural environment. Meanwhile, glamping, as a form of nature-based tourism accommodation, has experienced significant growth in popularity. Despite this trend, its availability in Batu City remains limited and has not yet fully incorporated environmentally sustainable site planning. Safari Pines Glamping is designed as a nature-based tourism accommodation facility located within the pine forest area of Batu City to address this need. The project adopts the theme "Embracing Nature Through Ecological Living" through the application of an Ecological Architecture approach, which emphasizes harmony among buildings, human activities, and the natural environment. The design employs the Glass Box method, a rational and systematic design process based on site analysis and activity requirements. This method is used to formulate a design concept that responds to the site's topography, climate, and ecological characteristics. The resulting design consists of a glamping complex with a clustered massing arrangement, organic circulation that follows the natural contours of the land, cabin- and tent-type accommodation units, nature-based tourism facilities, and utility systems designed to minimize environmental impact. The Safari Pines Glamping project is expected to serve as a sustainable alternative for nature-based tourism accommodation while supporting the conservation of the pine forest environment in Batu City. Keywords: Nature, Ecological Architecture, Glamping.
