Abstract

Hydroponic melon cultivation requires optimal management of nutrients and root growth space. This study aims to determine the effects of variations in media box volume, AB Mix nutrient concentration, and the interaction of both on the growth and yield of melon plants (Cucumis melo L.) of the Kinanti variety in the Machida hydroponic system. The research method employed a Split Plot Design with five replications. The main plot was the AB Mix nutrient concentration (1,400 ppm, 1,800 ppm, and 2,200 ppm), while the subplots were the media box volumes (20 liters, 40 liters, and 60 liters). Data were analyzed using ANOVA and followed by the Honest Significant Difference (HSD) test at the 5% level. The results of the study indicated that the interaction between AB Mix nutrient concentration and media box volume had no significant effect on all growth parameters, fruit yield, and root system of the melon plants. Individually, a nutrient concentration of AB Mix 1,800 ppm provided the best results for vegetative growth, whereas a media box volume of 60 liters resulted in the best root development. However, both factors did not have a significant effect on most generative parameters and melon fruit yield components.
