Abstract
This study aims to analyze economic conditions of turmeric farming households in Kesamben Wetan Village, Driyorejo District, Gresik Regency. The study focuses on income and expenditure conditions, expenditure composition, influencing factors, and the level of household welfare. The study used stratified random sampling method with sample of 41 farming households selected purposively. The results showed the average agricultural income was IDR 3,968,499, or 77.40%, and non-agricultural income was IDR 1,159,024, or 22.60% of total income. Household expenditures averaged Rp1,875,912, or 48.45%, for food, and Rp2,034,776, or 51.55% for non-food items. The highest food expenditure for farming households was cigarettes and tobacco, at Rp383,732, and the highest non-food expenditure was housing and household facilities, at Rp776,815. The variables that have significant effect are household income, land area, number of school-age children, number of household members, food consumption, and non-food consumption. The variables that do not have a significant effect are the age of household head and education of household head. The GSR welfare had an average value of 0.95 based on household expenditure calculations. This finding indicates turmeric farming households more prosperous because their food expenditure lower than non-food expenditure.
