Abstract

One of the benchmarks for assessing banking financial performance can be observed through the profitability achieved. Maximum profitability can be attained, among other factors, through proper planning and the effective utilization of sound and mature internal banking fundamentals. This study aims to analyze "the effect of capital adequacy, interest income, and operational efficiency on banking profitability with credit risk as a moderating variable in conventional commercial banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange." This research employs a quantitative approach, utilizing secondary data obtained from the documentation collection of annual reports from each bank on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The analytical technique used in this study is the Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) method, with a sample obtained through purposive sampling consisting of 40 banks over a five-year research period (2020-2024). The findings indicate that "capital adequacy does not contribute to profitability; however, interest income and operational efficiency do contribute to profitability. Credit risk is unable to moderate the effect of capital adequacy on profitability. Nevertheless, credit risk is proven to moderate by strengthening the effect of interest income on profitability, and credit risk also moderates by weakening the effect of operational efficiency on profitability in conventional commercial banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange." Keywords: Capital Adequacy; Credit Risk; Interest Income; Operational Ef iciency; Profitability.
