Abstract
True Shallot Seed (TSS), or botanical shallot seeds, is a solution for high-quality shallot seeds; however, TSS production in the “biru lancor” variety remains relatively low. Flowering can be enhanced by using bulbs of the appropriate size, but high flowering rates do not always result in seed production. Boron improves pollen viability and, consequently, increases seed yield. The study was conducted at the Agricultural Field of the Technical Implementation Unit for Rice and Secondary Crops Seed Development, Singosari Subdistrict, Malang Regency, East Java. This study was designed using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of two treatment factors: bulb size (3–5 g; 5.1–7 g; and >7 g) and boron dose (4.5 kg/ha; 6 kg/ha; and 7.5 kg/ha). An interaction between the two factors occurred at the early flowering stage, with the best combination being large tubers plus 4.5 kg of boron per ha. Tuber size had a significant effect on the flowering percentage, the number of inflorescences per plant, and the number of inflorescences per plot, with large tubers yielding the best results. Boron had a significant effect on seed number, with a dose of 7.5 kg per ha producing the highest seed count.
