Abstract

Brown spot disease caused by Curvularia sp. is one of the major diseases affecting rice plants, which can reduce plant growth, interfere with the photosynthetic process, and decrease crop yield. The use of biopesticides has become an environmentally friendly alternative for disease management by suppressing disease development while promoting plant growth. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the FOBIO biopesticide in reducing the intensity of brown spot disease and improving the growth and yield of rice plants. The research was conducted in Puton Village, Jombang Regency, using a factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) consisting of two factors: FOBIO biopesticide concentration (0, 5, and 10 mL L⁻¹) and seed soaking duration (10, 20, and 30 minutes). The observed parameters included disease intensity, plant height, number of leaves, number of tillers, and the fresh and dry weight of 1,000 rice grains. The results showed that the application of FOBIO biopesticide had a significant effect on several growth and yield parameters. The treatment consisting of FOBIO at a concentration of 10 mL L⁻¹ combined with a seed soaking duration of 30 minutes produced the best results in suppressing the intensity of brown spot disease and enhancing rice plant growth. Furthermore, the application of FOBIO contributed to an increase in the fresh and dry weight of 1,000 rice grains compared with the treatment without FOBIO application. In conclusion, FOBIO biopesticide has the potential to serve as an effective and environmentally friendly alternative for controlling brown spot disease while supporting the improvement of rice growth and productivity.
