Abstract

Indonesia's pepper export performance as one of the leading plantation commodities still faces various constraints, particularly related to the quality of trade facilitation, such as limited infrastructure, low logistics efficiency, and weak institutional governance. This study aims to analyze the trends of Indonesian pepper exports to major destination countries during the 2014-2023 period, examine the trade facilitation index, and analyze the effect of trade facilitation on Indonesian pepper exports. The method used in this study is the gravity model with a panel data approach to identify the factors affecting export performance. The results show that Indonesia's GDP, the GDP of major destination countries, economic distance, and the Corruption Perception Index have a significant effect on Indonesian pepper exports. In contrast, the trade and transport infrastructure quality index, as well as the logistics competence and quality index, do not have a significant effect on pepper exports. These findings indicate that economic and institutional factors play an important role in determining the performance of Indonesian pepper exports. Therefore, efforts are needed to improve governance, enhance logistics efficiency, and strengthen trade infrastructure in order to improve the export performance of Indonesian pepper.
