Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of various types of plant growth regulators (PGRs) and soaking durations on the initial growth of crystal guava shoot cuttings (Psidium guajava var. Kristal) in order to prevent failure and accelerate cutting growth. The research was conducted from December 2024 to February 2025 using a factorial experiment in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two factors: PGR type (without PGR, Rootone-F, onion extract, aloe vera, and coconut water) and soaking duration (3, 6, and 9 hours), resulting in 15 treatment combinations with three replications (total of 135 plants). There was an interaction between the two factors (type of growth regulator and soaking duration) on the parameters of number of shoots and shoot length. For the number of shoots, the combination of Rootone-F with a 3-hour soaking duration was the best treatment, producing the highest number of shoots successively at 2–5 weeks after planting (WAP). Additionally, the combination of coconut water with a 3-hour soaking duration produced the highest number of shoots at 12 WAP, i.e., 3.00–5.00 shoots per fruit and 3.33 shoots, respectively. For shoot length, the combination of aloe vera with a 3-hour soaking duration produced the highest shoot length at 2–4 WAP, ranging from 0.60 cm to 0.89 cm. Coconut water as a source of plant growth regulator (PGR) gave the best results for most growth parameters of cuttings, including the highest survival percentage of 51.85%–96.30%, the highest number of shoots at 9 and 11 WAP (3.85 and 3.81 shoots, respectively), the highest shoot length at 9 WAP (3.13 cm), the highest number of leaves at 6 WAP (1.73 leaves), a root length of 4.14 cm, and an average root number of 8.30. Furthermore, coconut water treatment also resulted in the highest fresh root weight (3.20 g) and the highest fresh plant weight (8.73 g). A 3-hour soaking duration gave the best results for cutting growth parameters, including a shoot length of 1.92 cm at 9 WAP and 1.83 cm at 12 WAP, the highest number of leaves at 6 WAP (1.74 leaves), at 8 WAP (1.52 leaves), and at 10 and 12 WAP (0.95 leaves each), and a root length of 3.75 cm
