Abstract

Turmeric production in Driyorejo District during the 2020–2024 period experienced fluctuations indicating uncertainty in production results and farmer income. This condition has the potential to influence farmer behavior in making farming decisions. This study aims to analyze the risk level of turmeric farming, identify farmer behavior in facing risks, and analyze socioeconomic factors that influence this behavior. The study was conducted on 50 turmeric farmers selected using a snowball sampling technique. The level of farming risk was analyzed using variability measures, farmer behavior towards risk was analyzed using the Moscardi and De Janvry approach, while the influence of socioeconomic factors on farmer behavior was analyzed using binary logistic regression. The results showed that the productivity risk of turmeric farming is classified as low with a coefficient of variation of 42%, while price risk and income risk are classified as high with values of 61% and 79%, respectively. Based on the risk behavior analysis, the majority of farmers are classified as risk neutral (32 people (64%), while 18 people (36%) are classified as risk takers. Socioeconomic factors that significantly influence farmer behavior in facing turmeric farming risks are land area and income. These findings indicate that farmer behavior in facing farming risks is shaped by the level of risk faced and their socioeconomic characteristics.
