Abstract
Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is an important horticultural commodity with high economic value and widespread cultivation in Indonesia. Eggplant productivity is influenced by suitable growing media and adequate nutrient availability. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of different growing media compositions and liquid organic fertilizers (LOF) on the growth and yield of purple eggplant and to determine the best treatment combination. The experiment was conducted using a factorial Completely Randomized Design with two factors and three replications. The first factor consisted of five growing media compositions: soil; soil : rice husk : cocopeat (2:1:1); soil : rice husk : cattle manure (2:1:1); soil : cocopeat : cattle manure (2:1:1); and soil : rice husk : cocopeat : cattle manure (2:1:1:1). The second factor consisted of four fertilizer treatments: NPK (control), vegetable waste LOF, banana peel LOF, and FOBIO. The results showed significant interactions between growing media composition and fertilizer type on plant height, leaf number, stem diameter, fruit weight per fruit per harvest week, fruit weight per plant per harvest week, and total fruit yield per plant. The combination of soil : rice husk : cattle manure (2:1:1) and vegetable waste LOF produced the best organic treatment, resulting in plant height of 88.00 cm, 58.33 leaves, stem diameter of 1.25 cm, and total fruit yield of 1,932.00 g per plant. Overall, the combination of soil : rice husk : cattle manure and vegetable waste LOF has potential as an environmentally friendly cultivation alternative for purple eggplant production.
