Abstract
Shallot (Allium cepa L.) is a high-economic-value horticultural commodity, but it is highly sensitive to reduced soil moisture due to its shallow fibrous root system. This study aimed to evaluate the interaction effect and determine the optimum dosages of mycorrhiza inoculation and NPK fertilizer to enhance the growth and yield of shallot plants under moderate drought stress simulated using Polyethylene Glycol (PEG 6000). The experiment was arranged in a factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two factors and three replications. The first factor was mycorrhiza dosage (M) consisting of four levels (0, 5, 15, and 25 g/plant). The second factor was NPK fertilizer dosage (P) consisting of three levels (240 kg/ha or 1.2 g/plant, 270 kg/ha or 1.35 g/plant, and 300 kg/ha or 1.5 g/plant). The results showed a significant interaction effect between mycorrhiza dosage and NPK fertilizer dosage on root length, total plant wet weight per hectare, and plant dry weight under drought stress conditions. The combination of 25 g/plant mycorrhiza and 300 kg/ha NPK fertilizer provided the best interaction, producing the most optimal average root length of 9.0 cm. Individually (single effect), the mycorrhiza inoculation dosage of 25 g/plant gave the best effect on plant height, leaf number, and Relative Growth Rate (RGR). Similarly, the single effect of NPK fertilizer at a dosage of 300 kg/ha showed the best results on plant length, leaf number, wet weight, and RGR of shallot plants under drought stress.
