Abstract
he use of carbon dioxide gas as an impurity binder in seawater aims to utilize CO₂ and store it in the form of carbonates, thereby forming water-insoluble compounds. The comparative factors in this study to achieve seawater quality that meets the required standards are the carbon dioxide gas flow rate and contact time. The CO₂ flow rates used were 400, 500, 600, 700, and 800 mL/min, with contact times ranging from 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 minutes. This study successfully reduced the impurity levels of Ca²⁺ and Mg²⁺ in seawater from initial values of 0.12% and 0.16% to 0.0203% and 0.0115%, respectively. Furthermore, the sodium chloride content increased from an initial 1.88% to 2.4502% at a CO₂ flow rate of 800 mL/min and a contact time of 35 minutes. These results indicate that the longer the contact time and the higher the flow rate of carbon dioxide gas used, the lower the impurity levels in seawater become, and the higher the sodium chloride content will be.
