Abstract

PT Semen Gresik Rembang Plant operates two finishing mill units that produce the same cement product. Differences in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) consumption between the two units indicate the influence of operational factors on thermal energy requirements. This study aims to analyze the factors causing differences in CNG consumption between Finish Mill 1 and Finish Mill 2. The method used was heat balance analysis by comparing operating conditions with water spray, without water spray, and without flash air. The results showed that water spray usage in Mill 2 was 5.62% higher than in Mill 1. In addition, the moisture content of raw materials, particularly trass additive, significantly affected the energy required for the evaporation process. Thermal energy demand in Mill 2 was also higher than in Mill 1 under all operating conditions, resulting in greater CNG consumption. The difference in CNG operating costs between the two mills reached IDR 1,202,616 per hour or approximately IDR 285.74 billion per year. Based on the analysis, material moisture content, water spray usage, and flash air conditions were identified as the main factors affecting differences in CNG consumption between the two finishing mill units. Therefore, controlling material moisture content and evaluating operating conditions are necessary to improve energy efficiency and reduce CNG consumption.
