Abstract
The tempe industry in Roomo Village, Gresik Regency generates large volumes of liquid waste that remain inadequately managed, while vegetable market waste and soybean pulp further compound organic waste management challenges. This study aimed to address these issues through bioconversion by Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae to produce Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF), as well as to determine the optimal substrate composition in relation to the resulting nutrient content in accordance with the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture Regulation No. 261/2019. A descriptive experimental method was employed using five substrate composition variations of cabbage waste, tomato waste, and soybean pulp (B0–B4). Parameters analyzed included the Waste Reduction Index (WRI), laboratory testing of the frass and LOF produced, comprising the C/N ratio of frass and the contents of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), and iron (Fe). The results indicated that the highest WRI value was obtained in B0 (100% cabbage and tomato vegetable waste), while increasing proportions of soybean pulp positively influenced the enhancement of N and K contents. The highest N value in the LOF was recorded in the treatment with the greatest soybean pulp proportion (LB4), whereas Fe content declined across all treatments as the soybean pulp proportion increased. Overall, all parameters across all treatments met the quality standards stipulated by Ministerial Regulation No. 261/2019. Pearson correlation analysis revealed that soybean pulp composition exhibited a very strong positive correlation with N and K contents, indicating that higher proportions of soybean pulp linearly increased both N and K concentrations in the LOF. In contrast, soybean pulp composition demonstrated a very strong negative correlation with iron (Fe) content, whereby increasing soybean pulp proportions significantly reduced Fe levels. Phosphorus (P) content yielded r = −0.157 and p-value 0.801, indicating no significant correlation between soybean pulp composition and P content, suggesting that P availability is not controlled by the quantity of soybean pulp in the substrate.
