Abstract
People with physical disabilities are a group within society that still faces limitations in accessing adequate healthcare services and rehabilitation facilities, particularly in Banyuwangi Regency. Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, Banyuwangi is among the five regencies in East Java with the highest number of people with physical disabilities, while the availability of comprehensive physical rehabilitation facilities remains limited. This condition highlights the need for the design of a rehabilitation center that not only functions as a medical facility, but also supports physical, psychological, and social recovery in a holistic manner. The purpose of this design project is to formulate the concept and design of a Rehabilitation Center for People with Physical Disabilities in Banyuwangi that is inclusive and user-friendly, while also promoting independence and improving the quality of life of people with physical disabilities through the application of a biophilic architectural approach. The design methods employed include literature studies, case studies, spatial requirement analysis, site and environmental analysis, and the formulation of design concepts based on biophilic principles. This approach emphasizes the integration of natural elements such as natural lighting, cross ventilation, vegetation, and visual connections with the landscape as part of a healing environment. The result of this design project is a Rehabilitation Center concept that accommodates physical therapy functions, vocational training, sensory facilities, and inclusive social spaces within an integrated design framework. The implementation of biophilic architecture is expected to create a calming environment, accelerate the recovery process, reduce stress levels, and encourage positive social interaction for people with physical disabilities in Banyuwangi and its surrounding areas.
