Abstract

Rice husk waste, which is rich in silica, has the potential to be utilized as a raw material for liquid ammonium silicate fertilizer to enhance crop resistance against abiotic stress. This study aimed to synthesize liquid ammonium silicate fertilizer through the extraction of silica from rice husk ash using ammonium hydroxide (NH₄OH) solution with varying concentrations (1; 1,25; 1,5; and 2 M) and extraction times (60, 75, 90, and 120 minutes). Silica content was analyzed using the gravimetric method, while nitrogen content was determined using the Kjeldahl method. The results showed that the highest silica content (0,24%) was obtained at a concentration of 2 M and an extraction time of 75 minutes, whereas the highest nitrogen content (4,57%) was achieved at a concentration of 2 M and an extraction time of 60 minutes. FTIR spectra confirmed the presence of Si–O–Si and N–H groups, indicating the formation of ammonium silicate. Overall, the optimum condition was achieved at 2 M NH₄OH concentration with an extraction time of 60–75 minutes. The synthesized liquid ammonium silicate has potential as an eco friendly, silica-based fertilizer to improve agricultural crop productivity.
