Abstract

Income disparity remains a challenge in Indonesia’s economic development, particularly in Java which contributes the largest share to the national Gross Domestic Product yet exhibits a moderate level of interprovincial inequality. Differences in regional fiscal capacity, economic growth dynamics, wage policies, and demographic characteristics are presumed to influence this condition. This study aims to analyze the effect of General Allocation Funds (DAU), economic growth, Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP), and population on income disparity as measured by the Gini Ratio across six provinces in Java during the 2015–2024 period. The research employs a quantitative approach using secondary data obtained from Statistics Indonesia (Badan Pusat Statistik) and the Central Government Financial Reports, also applies panel data regression analysis with the Random Effect Model (REM) estimation. The results indicate that DAU has a negative and significant effect on income disparity, while economic growth has a positive and significant effect. Meanwhile, UMP and population do not have a significant effect. These findings highlight the importance of optimizing fiscal transfer policies and promoting more inclusive economic growth to achieve more equitable welfare distribution across provinces in Java.
