Abstract

This study evaluates the overall industrial operations at the Onshore Processing Facility (OPF) of PT. PGN Saka Indonesia Pangkah Limited (SIPL) in Manyar, Gresik, East Java, focusing on the Gas Processing Facility (GPF), Oil Treating Facility (OTF), and Liquefied Petroleum Gas Facility (LPGF). The primary evaluation was dedicated to optimizing the Depropanizer unit within the LPGF. The unit currently handles an actual feed flow rate of only 25% of its initial design capacity , leading to energy inefficiencies as the condenser operates at full capacity. Process simulation and optimization were performed using Aspen HYSYS to investigate the effects of adjusting the condenser outlet temperature and the reflux ratio on energy conservation and product purity. The simulation results demonstrate that increasing the condenser outlet temperature from 45 °C to 47 °C and reducing the product-to-reflux ratio from 1:9 to 3:7 drastically lowers the energy requirement. This optimal configuration achieves a condenser power of 1,515 kW and a reboiler power of 1,285 kW—rendering the total energy consumption nearly four times lower than the baseline operational state—while rigorously maintaining a propane product purity of 99.85%. Consequently, these adjustments offer significant economic benefits and lower carbon emissions , contributing to sustainable engineering practices in the upstream oil and gas industry.
