Abstract

In development planning, rapid economic growth is often assumed to generate a trickle-down effect, whereby its benefits are expected to be distributed evenly across all layers of society. In reality, however, high economic growth does not always translate into equitable income distribution, as evidenced in the Kedungsepur Development Region of Central Java Province. This study aims to analyze the influence of socioeconomic factors on income inequality, with independent variables comprising the Open Unemployment Rate (OUR), per capita income, and district/city minimum wage. This study employs a descriptive quantitative approach using panel data regression with a fixed effect model over the period 2015–2024. The results indicate that the Open Unemployment Rate, per capita income, and district/city minimum wage have a positive and significant effect on income inequality, suggesting that increased economic activity without equal distribution of employment opportunities and income tends to widen the inequality gap. Therefore, more inclusive development policies are needed to reduce income inequality in the Kedungsepur Development Region.
