Abstract
The Project report industrial internship conducted at PT Salim Ivomas Pratama Tbk, Surabaya, aimed to study the production process flow of cooking oil and margarine. The scope of the field study encompassed an operational review of the refinery plant, which purifies Crude Palm Oil (CPO) into Refined, Bleached, and Deodorized Palm Oil (RBDPO), and the fractionation plant, which separates RBDPO into a liquid fraction (olein) for cooking oil and a solid fraction (RBD Stearin) as the raw material for margarine. Technical observations also covered the esterification process of RBD Stearin to eliminate Free Fatty Acid (FFA) content, the operational evaluation of the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) and plant utilities, an understanding of the company's organizational structure, and the implementation of Quality Control systems along with laboratory analyses spanning from raw materials to the final products. As the primary focus of the process engineering aspect, a specific assignment was completed, involving the calculation and evaluation of the mass balance for the RBDPO Fractionation Process and the Interesterification Reaction between RBDPO and RBD Stearin.
