Abstract

This study aims to analyze the design of the tray aerator inlet pipe on the value of the oxygen transfer coefficient in well water treatment. The inlet pipe design used in this study is 1 pipe with an orifice diameter of 8 mm, 2 pipes with an orifice diameter of 6 mm, and 3 pipes with an orifice diameter of 4 mm. In addition, this study also uses variations in the distance between trays, namely 30 cm, 40 cm, and 60 cm. This study was conducted using 2 types of raw water samples, namely demineralized water and well water. The raw water was treated with a tray aerator with a processing duration of 20 minutes. The study using demineralized water raw water aims to determine the effectiveness of the tray aerator in increasing dissolved oxygen and water pH. The highest increase in dissolved oxygen was 0.6 mg/l with a final result of 7.6 mg/l. The dissolved oxygen value was used to determine the oxygen transfer coefficient produced by the tray aerator. The highest oxygen transfer coefficient of 0.3131/second was produced from a variation of the inlet pipe design of 3 pipes with a distance between trays of 30 cm. The best oxygen transfer tray aerator variation was used in well water treatment to reduce dissolved metal levels such as Fe2+ and Mn2+. In this study, the tray aerator had an efficiency of 39,77% in reducing Fe2+ and 20,09% in reducing Mn2+. This study provides insights into the optimal design of tray aerators in well water treatment.
