Abstract

This Field Work Internship (PKL) was conducted at PT Petrokimia Gresik in Production Department IIIA, which produces ZA (Zwavelzure Ammoniak) fertilizer. The PKL activity aimed to provide a firsthand understanding of the ZA fertilizer production process, industrial equipment systems, and the implementation of occupational safety and health (K3) aspects in the factory environment. In addition to observing the production process, a specific task was performed to analyze the efficiency of the E-3101 Heat Exchanger, which plays a role in heating the ammonium sulfate solution. The methods used in this specific task included collecting operational data, calculating the heat balance, and analyzing heat transfer efficiency based on the inlet and outlet temperatures of the hot and cold fluids. The calculations showed that the heat exchanger efficiency remained within the acceptable operational range, although there were indications of decreased performance due to possible fouling or a decrease in the overall heat transfer coefficient. In general, the ZA fertilizer production process in Production Department IIIA includes neutralization between ammonia and sulfuric acid, crystallization, separation, drying, and packaging. Utilities systems such as steam and cooling water supply play a critical role in maintaining operational stability. Through this PKL activity, a technical understanding of the integration of chemical processes, heat transfer equipment, and the importance of evaluating equipment performance to maintain the efficiency and sustainability of factory operations was obtained.
