Abstract
Biogas is a renewable energy source that has the potential to replace most fuels. It can replace vehicle fuel, household fuel, and industrial fuel. This study aimed to examine the effect of solution type on the solution's resistance to biogas absorption. Biogas was flowed into an absorbent solution and then modified using flow times of 2-10 days and varying solutions of sodium hydroxide (NaOH), potassium hydroxide (KOH), and calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2). Biogas absorption was carried out using the absorption method. The results of the ORSAT test showed that CH4 levels increased, causing CO2, H2S, and O2 impurities to decrease as the absorbent solution reacted with the impurities and produced solids. The best CH4 content was obtained using potassium hydroxide (KOH) solution on the fourth day, which produced biogas with a CH4 content of 86.753%. The results of the Orsat test also showed that the absorbent solution was no longer effective or saturated on the 6th day, when the test results showed a difference in the absorbed biogas content, which began to return to its original content. The results showed that the use of the absorbent solution successfully increased CH4 levels beyond biogas quality standards by reducing the levels of impurities in the biogas, thus potentially further developing it as a fuel in several sectors that require it.
