Abstract

Indonesia is a country with a very strategic geological location, which is flanked by two continents and two oceans. This makes Indonesia rich in natural resources, both flora and fauna. It is estimated that more than 290,000 species of wild animals or approximately 17% of the world's animals exist in Indonesia. When measured from the world's land area, Indonesia is only 1.3% of that area. Indonesia is the number one country which has a wealth of mammals (515 species) and is a habitat for 1539 species of birds. Indonesia is also a habitat for endemic animals in Indonesia. Indonesia's geographical conditions make the endemic level higher than other countries, the number of endemic mammals in Indonesia is 259 species, birds 384 species and amphibians 173 species (IUCN, 2013). In Indonesia also has several endemic reptiles that are diverse. Several types of reptiles in Indonesia include lizards, turtles and snakes. However, the existence of these reptiles, many of which are threatened with extinction. Rare endemic reptiles are caused by forest destruction and land use change, thus threatening animal populations (https://komiu.id). Therefore, to prevent the extinction of endemic reptiles in Indonesia, media is needed that informs the types of endemic reptiles that are threatened with extinction and information on the importance of protecting animals, reptiles. which is on the verge of extinction. In designing the book Illustration of endemic reptiles in Indonesia, the author uses a questionnaire method via google form, interviews and observations to collect primary data. The target audience for teenagers in this design is the younger generation in the age range (17-25 years). In-depth interviews were conducted with several parties, namely Mas Momo, the head of the Jakarta Reptile Lovers Community (KPRJ) and Mas Mochamad Gautama, Admin & Venue staff from the WWF office in Surabaya. The observation method was carried out in two places, namely the Gramedia Surabaya bookstore and the WWF Surabaya office. Meanwhile, in collecting secondary data, this design is sourced from several related literature studies. The design uses the 5W + IH analysis method, which is a method for sorting the data that has been collected by answering the 5W + 1H questions (who, where. when, what, why and how). From the process of data collection and data analysis, keywords have been determined as the basis for the design, namely "special animals" which have a wise meaning, in conserving endemic reptiles full of life, charm and privilege. With this design, it is hoped that the younger generation can know the types of reptiles in Indonesia that are threatened with extinction so that the younger generation knows the importance of protecting reptiles and protecting the environment so that the existence of endemic reptiles does not become extinct. Keywords: Endemic reptile animal, Young generation, Illustration Book
