Abstract
The amount of water available in the soil varies due to the influence of soil properties on the land. The physical properties of soil, particularly soil permeability and water retention capacity, play an important role in regulating the hydrological cycle and land resource management. This study aims to analyze soil permeability and water retention capacity and determine the dominant factors that influence the variation of these two parameters in various land uses in Tutur District. The study was conducted on five land uses, namely mixed gardens, coffee plantations, pine forests, apple orchards, and natural forests. This study used an exploratory descriptive method, namely a field survey approach supported by laboratory soil analysis results. Soil sampling points were determined using purposive sampling. Three samples were taken at three depths (0-20 cm, 20-40 cm, 40-60 cm) in each land use type. Laboratory analysis parameters included permeability, water holding capacity, texture, bulk density, specific gravity, porosity, and organic carbon. The results showed that the highest permeability value was found in natural forest land use, with an average value of 5.27 cm.hour-1 at a depth of 0-60 cm. The highest water holding capacity was found in mixed garden land use with an average value of 84.67% at a depth of cm. The dominant factors affecting soil permeability and water holding capacity variation were soil specific gravity and bulk density.
