Abstract
This study aims to analyze the influence of clove production and exchange rates on the export value of cloves to Saudi Arabia, with competitiveness measured using the RCA indicator as a mediating variable. This research employs a quantitative approach using panel data analysis covering five major clove-exporting countries during the 2014–2023 period. Secondary data were obtained from UN Comtrade, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the Ministry of Agriculture, and other official publications.The findings indicate that clove production does not have a significant effect on competitiveness, suggesting that an increase in output alone is insufficient to strengthen comparative advantage without improvements in cost efficiency, product quality, and supply sustainability. Conversely, the exchange rate shows a positive and significant effect on competitiveness, implying that currency depreciation enhances the price competitiveness of cloves in international markets. Moreover, both the exchange rate and competitiveness have a direct positive impact on the export value of cloves to Saudi Arabia, while the indirect effect of production through competitiveness is not significant. These results highlight the importance of macroeconomic stability, improved production quality, and strengthened competitiveness as key strategies to sustain and expand Indonesia’s clove market penetration in Saudi Arabia.
