Abstract

Eggplant has a relatively high economic value. Purple eggplant can be an expensive product because the production volume is less than the demand. However, when cultivating eggplant, which is susceptible to diseases such as fruit rot caused by the fungus Phytophthora sp., plant disease control can be done in various ways. This time, we will use APH from the bacterium Streptomyces sp., which is considered an active decomposer bacterium. The research objectives are to determine the inhibitory effect of the fungus Phytophthora sp. on growth in vitro and to determine the level of damage caused by the disease attack after the application of the APH Streptomyces. The method used was to explore Streptomyces bacteria, which were then tested in vitro using dual culture and chitinase assays. After that, they were tested in the field using in vivo assays. The results obtained from the exploration yielded 9 Streptomyces isolates, and the in vitro tests showed a result of 51.1%. The chitinase assay showed a clear zone around the test isolates. Then, in the in vivo tests on plants treated with 20% APH, a low damage intensity value was observed. In conclusion, the Streptomyces bacteria obtained have the ability to inhibit the Phytophthora fungus, and the low severity index in the in vivo test indicates that APH Streptomyces is capable of inhibiting the growth of the pathogenic fungus on eggplant plants.
