Abstract

Brebes Regency experiences a gap between the potential and actual performance of leading sectors, so further identification is needed to determine which sectors truly have comparative and competitive advantages. This is in line with Law No. 23 of 2014 concerning Regional Government, which states that regional development must be structured based on the region's leading potential. This study aims to identify leading economic sectors in Brebes Regency by combining Location Quotient (LQ), shift share, and Klassen Typology analyses, then calculating the multiplier effect of the growth of the base sector on the regional economic growth of Brebes Regency. The method used in this study is a descriptive quantitative method, with secondary data in the form of time series data with a time period of 2019-2023 sourced from the Central Java BPS and Brebes Regency BPS. The results of the study found that the leading sectors are the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Sector; the Wholesale and Retail Trade Sector; the Car and Motorcycle Repair Sector; the Accommodation and Food and Beverage Provision Sector; the Education Services Sector; and the Other Services Sector. However, there has been a shift where the most superior and strategic sector for the future is not the agricultural sector but the processing industry sector.
